Soya Chunks-Spinach Patties



Soya Chunk Spinach patties to savor
The popularity of my soya chunks curry recipe prompted me to find more such recipes using it. Soya chunk patties is one such recipe. Since soya chunks are great alternatives for meat protein there is no second thought for me to use it in my cooking.  Make the weekend special with  soya chunk patty for breakfast or evening snack. Let us look at the secret of the recipe :)

Preparation time: 15 min
Main ingredients
Cooking time: 10 min
Serving size:  4 - 5 medium size patties
Difficulty: Medium

Ingredients
  • Soya chunks - 1 cups(soaked and drained)
  • Spinach - 1 cup
  • Onion - 1/4(medium size)
  • Potato - 1/2 (medium size) 
    Pulse the soya chunks, mash the potatoes and chop the spinach 
  • Meat/Chicken masala - 1 tsp
  • Oil for saute
  • Salt to taste
Notes:

  • Boil water along with little bit of milk and soak the soya chunks in it(milk gives fresh soya smell). After 5 - 10 minutes drain the water from the soaked soya chunks.
  • You can use garam masala if you don't want to use meat or chicken masala.
Preparation

  1. Chop the onions and spinach and set aside.
  2. Pulse the soaked and drained soya chunks in a mixie/blender.
  3. Pressure cook the potato for 2 to 3 whistles where it cooks enough to be mashed.
  4. Mash the potatoes and set aside.
Cooking
    In medium heat, cook as directed
  1. In a skillet, add 1 tsp of oil and when its warm add the onions and give it a saute until the onions turns golden brown.
  2. Add the mashed  potato, pulsed soya chunks and mix them.
  3. To the mix add the meat masala until the masala blends with the mix.
  4. Finally add the spinach and give it a mix so all the ingredients all well mixed.
  5. Remove from stove and when the mix cools, make lemon size balls.
  6. Fry the patties for 2 minutes on each side flipping the patties every minute
  7. Optionally step 1-6 can be skipped and all the ingredients can just be mixed since we are going to shallow  fry the patties.
  8. In a frying pan, add 2 tsp of oil, flatten the balls of soya chunks mix into patties. If needed add oil around the sides.
  9. Shallow fry the patties for 2 minutes on each side. Flip the patties every minute so that the patties are evenly fried.
  10. Enjoy the protein rich  soya chunk-spinach patties as a snack.
