HEALTHY COOKING RECEIPES
Garbanzo Patties ready to eat |
This is an alternative to the frozen vegetable patties that we buy from stores. My 8 year old son is interested in fast food and is also a best critic of my cooking. He gave me an A on these patties and it is one of his lunch menu during the weekdays :)
Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 5 min
Serving size: 3 patties
Ingredients
- Cooked garbanzo beans - 1 cup
- Raw spinach - 1 cup (can use any greens that you have at home)
- Garam masala powder - 1 tsp (can use pavbhaji or chaat masala)
- Asofoetida(hinge) - 1 pinch (helps removing gas from the beans)
- lemon juice - 1/2 tsp (for a tangy taste)
- Bread crumbs(this is optional)
- Salt to taste
- Olive oil(oil can be of your choice) to shallow fry
Grind the beans such that there are no big chunks of beans and mix with spinach and spices |
- Grind the cooked garbanzo beans such that you don't see the bean chunks(coarsely).
- Chop the spinach and add to the grounded beans.
- Add garam masala powder, salt, lemon juice, asofoetida and mix. Optionally you can also add 1/2 tsp of rice flour for firm patties.
- Make lemon size balls with the mixture and flaten it into circular patties.
- Dip in bread crumbs if you want the patties to be more firm.
Cook on both sides until golden brown |
- Add 1 tsp of oil in a pan and in medium heat shallow fry the patty on one side. Turn over the patty and add 1 more tsp of oil around the patty and fry it.
- Turn over the patty every 1 min until golden brown on both sides.
- Sandwich the patties between 2 toasted wheat breads and enjoy!
Spinach has loads of iron and anti-oxidants. Garbanzo beans is rich in fiber and protein. Lemon juice has the vitamin C to help boost immunity.

ReplyDeleteVimala, The patties look great. Should the garbanzo beans be ground coarsely, or should be a smooth paste? Also do they taste good when it's cold?
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteGrind the garbanzo beans coarsely until there are no big chunks of beans. If it is pasty it becomes too sticky. It tasted good when cold, but tastes better when warm or hot. My son's lunch box is a thermo and so it keeps the patties warm...Hope this helps...
