Milky-Nutty Oats


Tasty satiating milky nutty oats ready!
These days I am trying to keep life simple, which means my cooking is also simple but at the same time very effective in terms of its health benefits. This one-pot meal is so satiating and simple and I am amazed at the loads of nutrients it can give us. Requiring very minimal effort in cooking this recipe can go a long way for you and your family members of all age. My kids don't think of it as a breakfast meal, they consider it as a desert and call it "Oats Payasam". What a heart healthy, energy and immune boosting meal to start your day!

Ingredients
  • Oats - 1 cup (quick oats, rolled oats or steel cut oats)
  • Milk - 1 cup (Boiled milk if not ready to go milk)
  • Nuts - 1/3 cup (Increase per your need)
  • Honey - 1/4 cup(Increase according to your taste)
  • Raisins  - 1/4 cup
  • Salt - 1 pinch
  • Ghee -  1 - 2 tsp
Note:
Roast the nuts, raisins and oats in 2 tsp ghee
  • You can coarsely grind the nuts if its difficult for kids to eat.
  • Not suitable for kids less than one year.
  • Choose any nut of your choice(cashews, almonds, walnut, pistachios.....)
Cooking
  1. In a vessel bring ghee to warm on medium heat.
  2. Roast the nuts for about 30 seconds.
  3. To it, add the raisins and roast for 15 seconds.
  4. Add the oats and roast until you get the aroma of the oats.
  5. Add  3 cups of water and cook the oats. Depending on the oats that you are using this may take anywhere from 5 min to 15 min (check the instruction in the package).
    Once the oats is cooked add milk and remove from stove
  6. Once the oats is cooked add the milk and remove from stove and set aside for 2 - 3 min.
  7. Serve with honey and enjoy the milky, nutty oats.
The milk will be absorbed by the oats as it cools down
