Preparation time: 10 - 15 min
Cooking time: 2 min(for 1 Roti)
Serving size: 6 Rotis (for 1 cup of wheat flour and 1/2 cup of each
chana dhal flour and soy flour)
Ingredients
2 parts whole wheat flour
1 part channa dhal flour
1 part soy flour (available in Indian stores)
Masalas added to the flour |
Masalas to be added to the flour mix
- Add 1/4 tsp of each of cumins seeds(or cumin powder), fennel seeds(optional), coriander powder, 2 grated garlic(optional) , turmeric powder, red chilli powder(can substitute with crushed black pepper), sesame seeds(optional) and ajwain(optional). You can be creative and add other spices too.
- Add 1 cup of chopped spinach or chopped methi or 1 tsp kasoori methi. I add any leafy vegetable that I have, otherwise I just add kasoori methi.
Dough ready to make roti |
- Mix all the flour and masalas together along with required amount of salt.
- Add slightly warmed water to the mix and knead the flour to form roti dough. The dough may be slightly sticky due to the channa dhal flour and soy flour. Add 2 tsp of cooking oil and knead the flour until you get a soft dough.
- Make lemon size balls and roll it out.
- Heat tava to medium and cook the roti flipping it on both sides until done.
- I do not add oil when cooking the roti, but instead I serve the hot roti with 1/2 tsp of ghee.
Roti cooked until golden brown |
The whole wheat flour has relatively more dietary fiber. Soy and Channa dhal flour has protein content good for a meal. The other masalas(spices) added to the roti gives all the nutrition that is mentioned in Essential Spices Used in Daily Cooking. Spinach, methi or any leafy vegetable has loads of iron and anti-oxidants.

I wanted to see SOYA ATTA ROTI......Is it possible to make regular ROTI / CHAPATI with just Soya Flour without mixing it with other flours. How does it look....Does it taste similar to Wheat Flour Roti......
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI have not tried just soyflour. It would be very sticky and you will not be able to roll the chapati. You need to be an expert in roti making where you will place the dough on the tava and shape it. Will let you know when I try it. I have tried with just corn flour though, which also needs lot of skills and patience to make it on the tava itself.
