I had a post about the health benefits of the spices Essential Spices for Healthy Cooking that we use in our daily cooking. Now here is a list of herbs that I have in my kitchen all the time and I use at least two of the herbs in all my cooking, not only for their flavor but also for their numerous health benefits.
Curry Leaves
Curry leaves tastes slightly bitter. They are good blood purifiers. It has calcium and iron which helps against hair fall and anemia. They promote digestion. It helps in weight loss. It helps in hair growth and premature greying of hair. It is good for stomach disorders. Eating ten fresh fully grown curry leaves every morning for three months is said to help prevent diabetes due to heredity factors. Prevents early development of cataract. Curry leaves juice mixed with honey helps against nausea. Curry leaves also helps in lowering bad cholesterol when eaten in empty stomach.
Coriander Leaves
Coriander leaves is a natural cleansing agent and is powerful in cleansing the metal toxins like mercury and lead from the body. It promotes nervous system and stimulates memory. It is good for mouth ulcer and helps the digestive system. It promotes liver function and bowel movements. The iron content in coriander is good for curing anemia. It increases insulin secretion and regulates blood sugar level. It also helps in digestion and removes flatulence. It helps prevent urinary tract infections.
Mint Leaves
Mint has a sweet taste. Mint leaves stimulate the appetite, promote digestion and relieve flatulency. They also relieve children from colic, indigestion/gas issues. It works against skin problems like acne. It removes toxins from the body and purifies blood. It also helps in whiter teeth and eliminates mouth odors. Mint tea is good when having cold to clear the throat, lungs and also helps to relieve asthma and allergies. Mint also works against body ache and smooth tissues.
Parsley
It has a mild bitter taste. It gives good immunity to the body and helps build strong bones and teeth. It stimulates appetite and aids digestion. Parsley helps in healthy working of kidney and removing toxins from the body. It also helps in urinary tract infections. It helps to reduce blood pressure and good for menstrual related issues. With iron content it cures anemia and fatigue. Parsley helps eliminating bladder stones.
Tulsi(Indian Holy Basil)
Tulsi is very good for cold, flu and fever. Tulsi leaves extract mixed with water is good to reduce temperature especially in kids. Eating one leaf per day goes a long way for the overall health. It reduces stress, calms nervous system and purifies blood. Tulsi is good for respiratory organs and is good for asthma and other respiratory related issues. Chewing Tulsi leaves not only acts as mouth freshener but is also good for oral health.
All the herbs serve some common benefits like (a) good for digestion, (b) gives immunity, (c) good oral health, (d) remove toxins, (e) works against inflammation in the body, etc. So including at least one or two of these herbs often in your meals will help in the overall health of the body.
